Leo India Wins APAC Creative Agency of the Year at Spikes Asia 2026
Leo India claimed APAC Creative Agency of the Year at Spikes Asia 2026 with 13 metals, including two Grand Prix. The win demonstrates how institutionalized creative excellence drives competitive advantage across multiple brands.

Fundamental Mumbai won a Gold Film Spike for "WhatsApp – Baatan Hi Baatan Mein" (Love in a few words) on its debut entry. The agency competed directly against established global network agencies and won in one of the awards' most competitive categories.

"The growth we're seeing in areas like Creative Data and Creative Effectiveness shows how the region is embracing creativity that is not only bold, but also accountable," said Melanie Speet, Director of Spikes Asia.

Motion Sickness Auckland ranked first in the Independent Agency of the Year standings. Supermassive (Sydney) placed second and Howatson+Company (Sydney) placed third. Motion Sickness also claimed the Grand Prix for Good for "The Māori Roll Call," produced for New Zealand social services organization Whānau Ora.

Brand Participation and Geographic Diversity Both Expand

Brand participation climbed 18% year-on-year, with brands submitting 46% of all entries in the inaugural Creative B2B Spike category. Spikes Asia organizers described the results as reflecting "an industry that is expanding who creates great work and how that work drives real results."

Central Asia entered the winner's circle for the first time. GForce (Almaty) won both Silver and Gold Film Craft Spikes for "The Weight of Pain," produced for Uzbekistan's National Agency for Social Protection. The wins represent a notable expansion of recognized creative markets beyond traditional Asia-Pacific hubs including Singapore, Tokyo, and Sydney.

The 2026 jury comprised 93 jurors representing creative excellence across Asia-Pacific.

Network Agencies Retain Strength in Top Rankings

The independent surge did not displace global network agencies from the overall rankings. Leo (with offices in Mumbai, Taiwan, and Kuala Lumpur) secured the number one Asia-Pacific Agency of the Year ranking. Leo's campaign for Mountain Dew won Grand Prix in Creative Effectiveness.

Ogilvy Singapore's "Vaseline Verified" campaign for Unilever won Grand Prix across three separate categories: Creative Effectiveness, Creative Data, and Creative Use of Media. Ogilvy Singapore also earned Singapore Agency of the Year recognition.

YDM Thailand's "Dare to Step" for Gambol won the Design Grand Prix from a field of 192 entries. DENTSU INC.'s "The Missing Verse: Completing the Bento Symphony" for Zespri International Japan won the Film Grand Prix from 110 entries.

What the Results Signal for CMOs

The independent agency surge at Spikes Asia 2026 coincides with broader shifts in how brands structure their agency relationships. Research indicates 82% of brands globally now operate in-house agency functions, with APAC gaining particular momentum in this transition.

Separately, 74% of companies working with boutique creative firms report higher satisfaction compared to those working exclusively with large agencies, with direct access to senior talent cited as the primary reason.
