OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Go Across Asia at S$13
OpenAI's S$13 ChatGPT Go tier targets price-sensitive Asian markets with localized pricing across 16 countries, driving doubled subscriber growth after India launch.
OpenAI has completed the global rollout of ChatGPT Go, its low-cost subscription tier, now available in Singapore at S$13 per month and Australia at AUD$13 per month. The expansion follows a successful launch in India in August 2025 and marks the company's fastest-growing subscription tier across more than 170 countries.
Mid-Tier Pricing Targets Price-Sensitive Markets
ChatGPT Go now operates across 16 Asian markets with localized pricing. In Malaysia, the service costs RM38.99 monthly, while users in the Philippines pay ₱300, Vietnam ₫132,000, Thailand ฿259, and Indonesia IDR 75,000 (approximately US$4.60).

The tier provides 10 times more message capacity than free accounts, along with expanded file upload capabilities and image creation tools. Powered by GPT-5.2 Instant, the service targets everyday business tasks including document analysis, writing assistance, and web search functions.
OpenAI's three-tier consumer structure positions Go between the free version and ChatGPT Plus at US$20 monthly. The premium Plus tier offers higher usage limits and access to advanced reasoning models including GPT-5.2 Thinking. At the top end, ChatGPT Pro costs US$200 monthly with maximum capabilities for power users.
Regional Adoption Accelerates in Southeast Asia
The India launch in August 2025 at ₹399 monthly drove doubled paid subscriber growth, establishing a template for OpenAI's Asian expansion. Indonesia received access in September 2025 as part of the company's focus on emerging markets.
Vietnam saw weekly active users triple within a year of regional availability, while Thailand achieved four times adoption growth during the same period. Southeast Asian users access ChatGPT daily at 2.5 times the rate of Western European users, reflecting higher engagement in markets where affordability determines access.
India now accounts for 9.3% of global ChatGPT traffic, ranking second only to the United States. Low-income markets grew four times faster than high-income countries by May 2025, according to traffic analysis.
Advertising Model to Fund Affordable Access
OpenAI will begin testing advertisements in the United States within weeks, limited to free and Go tier users. Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers will remain ad-free under the company's tiered approach.
The advertising strategy includes several restrictions. Ads will not influence ChatGPT responses and will carry clear labels. User conversations remain private with no data sales permitted. Users under 18 and sensitive topics including health, mental health, and politics will not display advertisements. The company allows users to control or disable ad personalization.
OpenAI reported losses of US$7.8 billion in the first half of 2025, despite reaching a US$500 billion valuation. The company frames advertising as necessary to maintain affordable pricing while scaling operations across Asia's price-sensitive markets.
Competitive Pressure Intensifies
The expansion occurs as Google's Gemini AI Plus operates in more than 40 countries, creating direct competition in Asian markets. OpenAI's global user base reached 800 million weekly users by October 2025, up from 700 million in August.
Infrastructure gaps remain in some markets. iOS app availability lags in Cambodia, Laos, and Nepal, though web and Android access functions fully in these countries.
