Pinterest Brings Visual Discovery Into Programmatic Media Buying
Pinterest has opened selected visual-discovery ad inventory to programmatic buying across Asia Pacific through Magnite and major DSPs. A June brand test points to incremental reach, but CMOs still need transparent supply paths and independent evidence before shifting budgets.
Pinterest's October 26 launch puts selected video and display inventory inside established media-buying systems across Asia Pacific. CMOs gain a new route to commercial intent, but must prove the additional reach is worth its price.
Pinterest on October 26 made Programmatic Deals generally available in selected markets across North America, South America and Asia Pacific, allowing enterprise advertisers to buy selected display and video placements through established programmatic platforms. Magnite is the primary supply-side partner, with Google Ad Manager also supporting supply in Asia Pacific.
The change puts Pinterest's visual discovery inventory inside media plans that agencies already manage across other publishers and platforms. For brand leaders, the opportunity is not simply easier access to another social channel. It is a chance to test whether an audience exploring what to buy delivers additional reach once it is measured alongside existing campaigns.
Visual Discovery Enters The Common Buying Stack
Pinterest named Amazon Ads DVA+, Google Display & Video 360 and Yahoo DSP as demand-side buying routes. Magnite connects the platform's inventory and audience signals to those buyers, while its Orchestration product also includes Pinterest inventory in a system designed to coordinate automated buying agents.
Jason Fairchild, Pinterest's general manager of programmatic and affiliate, described the aim as helping brands "turn inspiration into conversion, now at scale". That distinction matters because visual search may influence a purchase before a customer has chosen a brand, rather than merely capture demand for a known product.
Pinterest says it now has 640 million monthly active users and more than 80 billion monthly searches, with over half described as commercial. More than 96% of its text searches are unbranded. These are company-reported indicators of potential discovery demand, not proof that any particular campaign will deliver incremental sales.

A Brand Test Makes The Case, With Limits
For a June 2026 Moroccanoil campaign, Pinterest said a programmatic deal through Magnite and Amazon Ads added its placements to an existing video and display campaign. It reported 15% incremental reach with 1% audience overlap and 63% more new-to-brand buyers among users whose purchase journeys included Pinterest.
The overall campaign also posted a click-through rate 20% higher than Moroccanoil's average video and display campaigns. The figures suggest a potential role for Pinterest in reaching people not already covered by a media plan. But they describe one advertiser's results, not a cross-market benchmark or an independent causal study.
As PPC Land noted, Pinterest has not published pricing, deal terms or a detailed placement list. Those omissions make the economics difficult to judge from the launch announcement alone.

Other Platforms Are Expanding Buyer Choice
Pinterest is not alone in moving differentiated audiences into larger buying systems. On October 22, LinkedIn announced that its connected-TV offering could be bought through Google Display & Video 360, using professional targeting such as job title and seniority. That LinkedIn route currently supports US targeting, while Pinterest's programmatic launch explicitly includes Asia Pacific.
The products are different, but both moves reduce the need for agencies to operate each advertising proposition through an isolated buying interface. They also give large DSPs and supply partners more influence over access, reporting and the terms under which audiences are compared.
Pinterest's own September Visual Search Ads launch pursued a different objective: placing advertising inside search results and Pin closeups. Programmatic Deals now adds a distribution route for selected inventory rather than replacing that native advertising business.

Asia Pacific Buyers Need Better Proof, Not Just Access
Pinterest confirms regional availability in Asia Pacific, but its announcement does not provide a country-by-country rollout list. Regional media leaders should therefore verify actual market and placement eligibility before including the channel in multi-country commitments.
The bigger procurement questions concern supply-path fees, audience overlap, placement transparency and conversion measurement. A single DSP dashboard may simplify buying, but it does not establish that the underlying inventory has become comparable or that additional reported reach is incremental to business outcomes.
For APAC CMOs, the practical next move is a controlled test against an existing media plan, with agreed reach definitions, independent measurement where feasible and market-specific costs. Pinterest's new distribution could broaden access to commercial discovery audiences. Whether it deserves more budget should depend on the buyers it adds, not the interfaces it removes.
