Cannes Lions Names Susan Credle 2026 Lion of St. Mark
Susan Credle receives Cannes Lions' lifetime achievement award for 40-year career building iconic campaigns at BBDO, Leo Burnett, and FCB. Her leadership drove six consecutive years of agency dominance.
Cannes Lions has named Susan Credle as the recipient of the Lion of St. Mark, the festival's lifetime achievement award, recognizing her 40-year career across three of the world's largest advertising agency networks.
Credle will be honored at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, running June 22–26, 2026 in Cannes, France. She will also deliver a seminar on Monday, June 22.
A Career Built Across Three Major Agency Networks
Credle's career began with a 1985 internship at BBDO New York, where she spent 24 years before moving to Leo Burnett Chicago and then to FCB, where she served as Global Chief Creative Officer.

Her work produced some of advertising's most recognized campaigns. In 1996, she and art director Steve Rutter created the M&M's character platform at BBDO, a concept still commercially active more than 25 years later. Other notable work includes Allstate's Mayhem campaign, Secret Deodorant's Mean Stinks anti-bullying initiative, and McDonald's Happy Meal literacy programs.
Simon Cook, CEO of LIONS, cited Credle's impact beyond individual campaigns. "Susan Credle is a trailblazer and a creative force," Cook said. "Throughout her career she has consistently built cultures where creativity thrives, producing iconic work while shaping the values, standards and conditions for success."
FCB's Six-Year Cannes Dominance Anchors Credle's Record
During Credle's tenure at FCB, the agency was named Cannes Lions North America Agency of the Year for six consecutive years, from 2019 through 2024. FCB also received the Cannes Lions Global Network of the Year title in 2020 and 2021.
The agency ranked number one on the WARC Effective 100 as the most effective creative agency in 2023, and was named Adweek Global Agency of the Year in 2020. FCB accumulated more than 170 Clio wins during her tenure, including Clio Agency of the Year in 2023.
Cook described Credle's philosophy as viewing creativity as "an economic multiplier," a position supported by FCB's simultaneous recognition across both creative and effectiveness rankings.
Context: What the Award Signals for the Industry in 2026
The Lion of St. Mark has been awarded annually since 2011. The 2024 recipient was Jacques Séguéla, whose career included campaigns for Air France, Apple, Citroën, and Louis Vuitton.
Credle's recognition arrives as the industry debates the role of artificial intelligence in creative work. Cannes Lions 2025 introduced a Creative Champion of the Year award, with Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen as its inaugural recipient, reflecting the festival's expanding definition of creative leadership to include technology enablement.
Credle has served on Cannes Lions juries eight times, including three times as Jury President, among them the Titanium category. She currently serves as Global Creative Advisor at Interpublic Group, a role she took on in 2024.
Reflecting on her early career, Credle described seeing a Pepsi Grand Prix-winning campaign on her first day at BBDO as foundational. "The best ideas don't just succeed in the moment," she said. "They strive to be NVRFNSHD."
Credle's Lion of St. Mark seminar is scheduled for June 22, the opening day of the 2026 festival.
