Why FGS Global's AI Advisory Buildup Signals Market Inflection

When a top public relations firm poaches the person who built a rival's AI division, it is not just a talent move. It is a signal about where the entire industry is heading. FGS Global appointed Ethan Bauley as its Head of AI Advisory on April 24, 2026. He came directly from Weber Shandwick's AI and data unit, Weber I/O, where he spent years building the firm's AI strategy and forging long-term partnerships with major technology companies and academic researchers. This is FGS Global's second big AI hire in eight months. It follows a deliberate build-up that tells a clear story. ### A Calculated Sequence, Not a Coincidence

The sequence matters. In September 2025, FGS hired Aaron Kwittken, a veteran of 30 years in enterprise data and communications technology, to lead its intelligence and innovation efforts. In January 2026, FGS launched its formal AI advisory practice and simultaneously acquired Memetica, a threat intelligence company founded by a former New York Times investigative journalist. Memetica specializes in AI-driven monitoring of social media, dark web, and fringe platforms. Now, four months later, Bauley joins to lead the practice in North America. "We are at a pivotal turning point in our industry," said Kwittken on the appointment. "His deep expertise in AI-driven communications, product development, and strategic advisory positions him perfectly to lead and grow our AI Advisory business in North America." This is not a firm experimenting with AI on the side. It is a firm that has made AI advisory a core business. ### What the Practice Actually Does FGS Global's AI advisory work is organized around four areas: helping brands understand how AI tools and platforms represent them online (a category sometimes called Generative Engine Optimization), managing AI-related risk and crisis communications, building intelligence and analytics programs, and advising organizations on how to transform their operations using AI. Bauley's role spans all of it. He will lead teams of data scientists, engineers, and subject matter experts to help clients understand how their brand appears inside AI tools like ChatGPT, how to use AI in threat detection and scenario planning, and how to build internal AI capabilities. This matters because the tools that shape how your brand is perceived have expanded well beyond traditional media coverage. More than half of Google searches now generate AI-powered summaries. ChatGPT is one of the most visited websites in the world. If your organization is not thinking about how AI models describe you, someone else will be. ### What This Means for Marketing Leaders in Asia The PR firms investing most aggressively in AI expertise are making a calculated bet: that their clients will soon need help navigating AI risk at the same level they currently need help managing a crisis or launching a campaign. For marketing leaders in Asia, that bet is especially relevant. AI risk has climbed from 10th to the second largest business risk globally in just one year, according to the Allianz Risk Barometer, and Asia Pacific rankings mirror that trend. Meanwhile, the governance frameworks that help organizations manage AI responsibly are still catching up to the pace of adoption across the region. BCG research finds that 50% of Chief Communications Officers plan to redeploy or reduce headcount within the next year due to AI. That urgency is the market FGS Global is targeting. The practical question is not whether your agency has an AI tool. It is whether they have someone who understands the risks, the brand implications, and the regulatory landscape well enough to give you real advice. Bauley's hire suggests FGS Global is positioning itself to answer yes to that question. The rest of the industry is watching.
