Anonymous Content Appoints First Chief Communications Officer

Global media company Anonymous Content has appointed Liza Burnett Fefferman as its first-ever Chief Communications and Marketing Officer (CCMO), a newly created role designed to unify communications across the company's three separate business divisions.

A New Role Built to Connect Three Divisions

Burnett Fefferman will report directly to president and CEO Darren Walker and join the executive leadership team. She begins next month.

Bray Leino Appoints Wayne Deakin as First Chief Creative Officer
Bray Leino creates its first CCO role to unify creative leadership across three agencies and five sectors. Wayne Deakin's appointment signals a strategic push toward integrated creative management amid a 39% profit decline.

Her mandate covers all three of Anonymous Content's divisions: its talent representation arm, which manages more than 200 directors, writers, actors, and comedians; AC Studios, which handles film, TV, and documentary production; and The Lab, which focuses on commercials and branded content. The company also has six television series scheduled to premiere within the next 18 months.

Prior to this appointment, no centralized communications function existed across these divisions. Burnett Fefferman will build that function from the ground up, with responsibilities including shaping the company's overall brand story, developing integrated marketing strategies, and expanding global partnerships.

"Pair that with a transformative leader in [Walker] and a singular long-term investment partner in Emerson Collective and I knew this was a place where I could have a meaningful and substantial impact," Burnett Fefferman said in a statement. She also cited the company's "commitment to creative independence — something incredibly difficult to maintain in this industry" as a key factor in her decision.

Executive Arrives After Paramount's US$8 Billion Acquisition

Burnett Fefferman's availability follows Skydance Media's US$8 billion acquisition of Paramount Global, completed in August 2024, which triggered significant leadership changes across Paramount's senior ranks.

At Paramount, she served as Executive Vice President and Head of Communications for Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks. At the peak of her tenure, she managed communications across 10 distinct media brands, including MTV, Comedy Central, VH1, and Showtime. She joined Paramount in 2016.

Before Paramount, Burnett Fefferman oversaw marketing campaigns for 40 film releases at film distribution label Radius and held senior roles at Samuel Goldwyn Films. She was recognized in PRWeek's Women of Distinction 2020 class and appeared on the PRWeek Power List in 2019.

CCMO Title Remains Rare in Media Production

The CCMO title is still uncommon in media production companies. Global CMO appointments surged 61.6% in a recent measurement period, totaling 501 appointments, with technology and retail sectors leading that activity. Media production firms remain underrepresented in CCMO-level role creation.

Industry research indicates that 92% of communications leaders now report increased executive reliance on their strategic input, supporting the business case for CEO-reporting communications roles. Additionally, 83% of CMO-level hires at larger enterprises are external candidates, consistent with Anonymous Content's decision to recruit externally for this newly created position.
