Netflix Appoints Google APAC Comms Director as Regional VP

Netflix has appointed Joy Albert as vice president of communications for Asia Pacific, effective March 9, 2026, based in Singapore. Albert joins from Google, where she spent more than 12 years in communications roles across the region.

Albert Brings Multi-Sector APAC Experience to Netflix

Albert most recently served as director of communications for Asia Pacific at Google. Before Google, she held positions at global PR firm Burson-Marsteller and Dutch dairy company FrieslandCampina, giving her experience across tech, consumer goods, and agency communications.

Albert announced the move on LinkedIn, citing Netflix's role in the region. "Not only is the storytelling coming out of this region unmatched, but Netflix is also a massive contributor to local economies and doing incredible things to export Asian culture to the world," she said. "It is an absolute privilege to step in and lead Asia Pacific communications at this time."

Albert's appointment was made by Netflix chief communications officer Dani Dudeck, who joined the company earlier this year and reports directly to co-CEO Ted Sarandos.

Netflix Builds a Three-Tier Global Communications Structure

Albert's hire is part of a coordinated pair of regional appointments. Dudeck simultaneously named Flávia Vígio, formerly of TelevisaUnivision, as vice president of communications for Latin America. Both regional VPs report to Dudeck.

APAC Regulated Markets Face Rising Cost of PR Leadership Turnover
Senior communications departures in regulated APAC markets now carry measurable business risk. Agency consolidations and high-profile hires reveal how companies compete for crisis-experienced leaders.

The structure places a CCO at the global level, two regional VPs below that, and local teams underneath. Dudeck said on LinkedIn the appointments will help "support creators, elevate local stories, and spark the kind of global conversation and fandom that only great storytelling can."

The dual hire reflects a broader expansion of Netflix's APAC leadership. The company has recently appointed Anthony Zameczkowski as VP of Business Development for Asia Pacific, promoted Laurent Uguen to VP of APAC Partnerships and Business Development (now based in Seoul), and named Amanda Duthie as Content Director for Australia and New Zealand.

APAC Communications Role Carries Direct Commercial Weight

Netflix's APAC communications function sits within a commercially significant regional context. Per Kantar Media Reactions 2025, Netflix ranks as the most preferred advertising platform in APAC. Some 37% of APAC consumers view Netflix ads as trustworthy, and 35% rate them as high quality. Marketers are planning increased 2026 spending on Netflix's video formats, prioritizing them over YouTube.

Netflix has also invested more than A$10 million in Australia and New Zealand since 2021 through production training programs, training over 8,000 industry professionals across the region. Albert referenced this economic contribution directly in her public announcement.

Potential Warner Bros. Acquisition Adds Complexity to Albert's Brief

Albert joins at a moment of significant corporate activity for Netflix. The company has submitted a bid of approximately US$82.7 billion for Warner Bros.' studio and streaming assets, competing against a Paramount Skydance offer of approximately US$108.4 billion. Warner Bros. shareholders are scheduled to vote on the Netflix bid on March 20, 2026, 11 days after Albert officially starts.

If the acquisition proceeds, it would expand the content portfolio Albert oversees communications for across APAC markets.

Netflix's current content slate includes Stranger Things season five, Wednesday season two, and Squid Game season three, with upcoming titles including BEEF season two and Avatar: The Last Airbender season two.
