Spectrum Science Consolidates PR Under Single P&L Model

Spectrum Science appoints Lisa Talbot as communications president, consolidating PR, clinical, and commercial functions under one P&L. The move reflects healthcare agencies' shift toward integrated organizational models.

Spectrum Science Consolidates PR Under Single P&L Model

Independent health and science agency Spectrum Science has appointed Lisa Talbot as president of its communications division, effective March 2025, consolidating PR, scientific communications, clinical, and commercial functions under a unified organizational structure.

Leadership Transition and Structural Mandate

Talbot reports directly to Amy Hutnik, president and chief commercial officer, and manages a team of several hundred staff members. She replaces Michelle Gross, who departed after 11 years with the firm.

Anonymous Content names Liza Burnett Fefferman as its first CCMO, unifying communications across three divisions. The newly created role signals how media companies are centralizing brand strategy.

Her mandate is to grow Spectrum's communications pillar while broadening how the market understands science storytelling. "The agency is known best for science communications," Talbot said. "I'm looking forward to expanding how people see what that means."

Talbot cited Spectrum's integrated structure as a primary reason for accepting the role. "Integration is built into the structure, eliminating the need to coordinate separately across disciplines," she said. The agency's model combines marketing communications, clinical trial recruitment, advertising, consulting, media, and patient engagement under single leadership.

Spectrum Science reported US$83 million in global revenue in 2024, representing 4% year-over-year growth, with US$77 million generated in the United States.

Talbot's Cross-Agency Integration Experience

Talbot joins from MSL, part of Publicis Groupe, where she served as chief client officer for four years overseeing healthcare, consumer, and corporate practices across the holding company's networks.

Prior to MSL, she served as chief strategy officer at Dxtra Health, an Interpublic Group unit, where she architected and launched a collective of 27 former IPG agencies under a unified strategic framework. Her earlier roles include EVP and head of health strategy at Weber Shandwick, and leadership positions at Marina Maher Communications, Cohn & Wolfe, and Zeno Group. She was named to PRWeek's 40 Under 40 class in 2013.

"We're in a time where healthcare communicators are facing a new level of complexity," Talbot said. "The problems are harder and the stakes are higher and finding new ways to solve these issues needs to happen."

Industry Shift Toward Unified Agency Structures

Spectrum Science's organizational model reflects a broader shift in healthcare communications, where agencies are combining PR, scientific communications, medical education, and commercial strategy under single leadership to serve complex pharmaceutical and biotech client needs.

The agency operates as part of Global Health Marketing and Communications, a network of independent health and science agencies that Spectrum founded and chairs. This positions its integrated model within a broader ecosystem of specialized independent firms rather than a traditional holding company structure.

Parallel restructuring is also occurring at the holding company level. Omnicom Health's post-IPG acquisition realignment into new agency groups reflects similar organizational pressure across both independent and network agency models.
