Why Independent Agencies Are Adopting Group Models Across APAC
Australian consultancy SOLVD joins a growing trend of independent agencies adopting group structures to scale without holding company overhead. APAC independents are competing at group scale through specialist divisions and hybrid partnerships.
Australian independent consultancy SOLVD has announced its evolution into a formal group structure, unveiling the SOLVD Group alongside a refreshed brand identity following significant client growth since its 2020 founding in Newcastle, New South Wales.
The move introduces specialist divisions operating under the SOLVD Group umbrella, with the first division described as launching shortly. No specific name or launch date for the initial division has been confirmed.
Restructure Frames Existing Scale, Not New Capability
Principal Consultant Sam Gannon positioned the transition as a communications decision as much as an operational one.
"Over the past few years, we've extended our reach and impact, and our capabilities have also expanded well beyond a single-brand agency," Gannon said. "It feels like the right time to make that scale and reach visible externally."
The group structure allows specialist brands to operate independently while sharing SOLVD's core team and philosophy. The agency has expanded across four markets since launch: Newcastle, Sydney, the Sunshine Coast, and New Zealand.
Coinciding with the announcement, SOLVD appointed Dan Stephens as its inaugural Creative Director. Stephens described the agency's approach as distinctive. "The agency doesn't treat creativity as a service offering, it treats it as a way of operating. That's rare," he said.
The brand refresh introduces a three-color visual system of deep black, clean white, and SOLVD yellow, with animated wave forms and halftone print qualities across the agency's new website.
Independent Agency Group Models Gaining Ground Across APAC
SOLVD's structural move reflects a documented pattern among independent agencies across Asia-Pacific. Multiple independents are adopting group-adjacent models to scale without holding company overhead.

In the Philippines, GIGIL achieved 46 acceptances across 27 campaigns to rank number one Asia-Pacific Agency of the Year in THE WORK 2025, operating without network infrastructure. Bear Meets Eagle on Fire claimed the top APAC independent ranking in The One Show 2025.
In Korea, CREATIP won Gold for Independent Agency of the Year at Campaign Asia-Pacific 2025, scaling specialist digital marketing capability across Korea and Japan. Moonfolks operates a documented hybrid model, partnering with Havas for operational support while maintaining independence across advertising, digital, PR, and production.
These examples confirm that independent agencies competing at group scale through specialist focus is now a measurable trend, not an exception.

SOLVD's Track Record Ahead of Structural Expansion
SOLVD appeared on the 2024 AFR Fast Starters list, a nationally recognized benchmark for high-growth Australian businesses, confirming its revenue trajectory since launch.
The agency also received recognition at the Transform Awards ANZ for strategic branding work completed for Noveco Surfaces. Its named client roster spans five sectors: tourism (Reflections Holiday Parks), professional services (PKF), resources (Glencore), higher education (University of Newcastle), and utilities (Hunter Water Corporation).
Gannon framed the agency's competitive positioning explicitly against technology-driven commoditization. "Technology levels the playing field, it doesn't replicate genuine creative thinking, and the unique insights and ideas that make people stop," he said.
The specialist divisions are expected to launch progressively, with no confirmed timeline announced beyond the initial forthcoming division.
