Why Brands Are Ditching Websites for Conversational AI Interfaces

R/GA and G42 launched alpha.G42.ai, replacing traditional websites with conversational AI that generates personalized content in real time. Brands now target both human visitors and AI agents across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity.

Why Brands Are Ditching Websites for Conversational AI Interfaces

Creative agency R/GA and Abu Dhabi-based AI company G42 launched alpha.G42.ai on or around April 16, 2026. The platform replaces a traditional corporate website with a fully conversational, AI-powered interface that generates personalized content for each visitor in real time.

What alpha.G42.ai Actually Does

Rather than displaying fixed web pages, the platform functions as an intelligent agent. Visitors interact via voice or text, and the system responds with tailored content, including sector-specific executive briefings and audio podcasts.

85% of AI Search Citations Come From External Sources—Here's Why
85% of AI search citations come from external sources, not brand websites. Herd MSL and Publicis launch Elevate to help Asia-Pacific brands win visibility in ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews.

The platform ingests source materials such as PDFs, videos, articles, and notes, then synthesizes them into a live knowledge base. It replaces the traditional content management system entirely, generating audience-specific responses on demand.

The system is also engineered to influence AI agents on external platforms, not just human visitors. This means its content strategy targets machine-to-machine discovery across tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, and Deepseek.

Kyle Wheeler, Global Executive Creative Director at R/GA, described the outcome directly: "Our response was not to redesign a website, but to engineer the next operating system for brands."

Alesandro Brunori, VP of Brand Experience at G42, called it "a world-first in generative experience design, marking the true beginning of the agentic web."

The Brief That Drove the Project

G42 issued R/GA a pointed challenge before the project began: "Websites are dead; agencies are irrelevant; prove us wrong."

The project was funded through R/GA's US$50 million Innovation Fund, which also produced a proprietary AI Search Optimization platform. That tool benchmarks brand visibility across five major AI discovery platforms in real time, providing sentiment analysis and competitive tracking.

R/GA has also restructured its leadership around this work. Ben Cooper leads the agency's Global AI Products team, while Vanessa Lai serves as Group Creative Director for Intelligent Systems.

Why Static Websites Are Under Pressure

The launch reflects a documented shift in how people find information online. According to data cited by R/GA, 34% of Google queries now surface AI-generated summaries rather than traditional search results. Separately, 80% of consumers rely on zero-click searches for 40% of their queries, meaning they get answers directly from search tools without ever visiting a website.

Why Traditional Agency Model Falters in APAC: Enero Case Study
Enero Group's share price hit a 10-year low as traditional agency holding companies face structural collapse across APAC. WPP and Dentsu are abandoning the model entirely.

These figures directly undermine the core logic of the static corporate website: that driving traffic to a URL is how brands get discovered.

For enterprise brands operating across multiple markets and audiences, as G42 does across Abu Dhabi, Ankara, Astana, Europe, Kenya, and the United States, a website that AI tools cannot accurately read or represent becomes effectively invisible to a growing share of prospective audiences.

G42's Position in the AI Landscape

G42 was named to TIME's 100 Most Influential Companies list in 2025, recognized in part for developing a giga-scale AI supercomputer in Abu Dhabi with partners including OpenAI.

The company targets B2B, B2G, academic, and entrepreneurial audiences through what it calls an Intelligence Grid for AI-Native Societies. Alpha.G42.ai is designed as the brand communications layer for that infrastructure.

The platform is currently optimized for web browsers but is described as engineered for brand experiences beyond traditional screens.

R/GA's concept of "promptable brands," encoding a brand's visual, verbal, and experiential identity in formats that AI tools can accurately interpret, represents the operational framework behind the project.

Alpha.G42.ai is currently live at alpha.g42.ai. No timeline for a full production deployment has been publicly announced.
